Bhunte thought to take Sanu around his home. Sanu was whirling her trunk around and running behind Bhunte and a little butterfly, when Bhunte hushed and stopped Sanu. “Sanu, can you see Jaggesh anna over there? He is trying to cross that iron fence. Let us watch that!” Sanu stretched her tiny trunk and sensed an elephant near the fence, both of them stood still and observed. Jaganna slowly inspected the fence with his trunk. First, he climbed on that iron fence to check the strength and if it can be broken! Then, he stretched his hind leg and attempted climbing! He failed. Sanu curiously observed as this was her first time when she saw something like this, while Bhunte has seen his uncles sneaking out through such fences a lot. In fact, he remembers the lecture series by Biliya uncle at Veeranahosahalli in April 2017. Bhunte remembers all the steps. And here, he could see that Jaganna was following the same instructions. Well, many humans think elephants are just random animals, that humans have the liberty to ruin my home, but they barely know that elephants have a sharp memory, Bhunte thought himself. He also remembers one of his brothers who lost his life while crossing one such iron fence and many being electrocuted. Why do we need a fence? Bhunte was lost. Sanu was excited when she saw that Jaggu anna actually crossed the fence and left happily! While Bhunte was still pondering about Biliya uncle’s lecture series on “How to cross the fence?”…Jaganna ventured into human-settlements, bravely!
